Who we are
Neftex Petroleum Consultants Ltd (Neftex) is the world's leading sequence stratigraphic consultancy. Using sedimentological, biostratigraphic and structural geology skills, we develop 3D sequence stratigraphic models for major oil & gas companies and work with them to place our model into their exploration activities. The company was formed in 2001 and has grown from 3 geoscience staff to 70 staff in total, more than 50 of which are geoscientists. We are continuing to expand and are looking for motivated geoscientists to come and work with us.
What we do
We provide exploration advice to the global resource industries on either a single-client consultancy basis or through multi-client subscription studies. We have developed a global eustatic model based on detailed analysis and interpretation of the stratigraphic record. Such a tool has profound implications for petroleum exploration such as the identification of new opportunities and analogues, as well as risk and cost reduction.
Our Vision
Using our sequence stratigraphic model, our vision is to provide our clients with an interpreted digital sequence stratigraphic model of the Earth. We are already on the way to fulfilling our vision, currently working our sequence stratigraphic model in all regions of the globe, from the Arctic to Australasia. Our work is supported by many of the world's largest oil companies. As well as our regional sequence stratigraphic work, we also work closely with our clients to integrate their field scale data into regional exploration models.
Working at Neftex
As a dynamic company, we expect our new staff to be working on major projects from day one. With the training we provide, and your skills as a geoscientist, you will be responsible for making stratigraphic interpretations of outcrops and well logs. Working in a small team, you will use these interpretations to develop the stratigraphic and exploration models for one of our project regions. New staff are expected to interact with our clients, both in our office in the UK and in client offices around the world. Alternatively you might be involved in more specialist work reviewing, for example, geochemical, biostratigraphic, reservoir or seismic data.
Training Opportunities
We provide a wide variety of in house and external training opportunities, which includes sequence stratigraphy, wireline interpretation, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir geology and playfairway analysis. We also run field courses for our staff that have included trips to Dorest, the NE of England, the West of Ireland and the Vercors Alps in France.
Career Development
Neftex endeavours to provide a wide variety of opportunities for our staff and give them the freedom to develop their careers as their experience progresses. Possible career pathways for geoscientists include developing regional or generic expertise or specialising in fields such as petroleum systems, reservoir characterisation or large scale geodynamics. There are also opportunities to work on Bespoke projects with our clients as appropriate opportunities arise. Management opportunities are available for suitable staff. Staff are encouraged to attend and present at international conferences.
